Theater is where our Actor is born. It is the base of any strong workshop environment. Process creating a real experience, then revealing this experience rather than something being performed.
Too often actors rush to wanting to do film and/or television. When we do theater first the camera will find us…keeps the engine out in front of the train. This was my experience when starting out in the late ‘80s, while being fortunate enough to see several of John Patrick Shanley’s original productions in NYC. The thrill of it being alive and up there made me want to get on that same tightrope and risk it all. I’ve never looked back…and try to not look down.
We will be working with scenes from five Shanley plays:
Danny and the Deep Blue Sea
Savage in Limbo
Four Dogs and a Bone
a dreamer examines his pillow
Women of Manhattan
Presented in a live workshop/theater setting the final evening of the class. Through this process you will strengthen your ability to:
-
Make clear choices
-
Connect with your scene partner
-
Learn/absorb text with intention
-
Rehearse effectively
-
Share your work in front of an audience
How do we fight, identify and surrender what is blocking us and embrace what sets us free? You will make these conscious creative choices as an Artist and begin to put an end to them ruling your life.
You will Work with:
-
Attachment to what leaves you feeling Resentful
-
Finding the turning point of Surrender
-
Embracing what sets you Free…residing in Gratitude
