Feb 17-Mar 23 EUROPE TOUR: Un-Type Yourself

“UN-TYPE YOURSELF”

It’s easy to lose a sense of our playful, spontaneous selves. To get caught up in old habits and patterns that make us who we think we SHOULD be.

 “WHAT’S MY TYPE?”

What if we smashed this question and broke all patterns and fully embraced our PLAYFUL feminine and/or masculine energy within?

CLICK HERE to download “Four dogs and a bone” by John Patrick Shanley, the play we’ll be working with. It’s a fun romp. Give it a good read and bring a printed copy to class…it ain’t that massive.

I’d like each of you to pull a monologue from the play that runs no more than 60-90 seconds. BUT… pick a character you would never play. Go full on against type casting. If you’re an older dude (like myself)…yes, embrace your inner Brenda or Collette and go for it!  If you’re a true ingénue or an actress who’s been around…go for Bradley or Victor!

I reached out to Shanley to make sure I had his blessing with bastardizing his play 😉 His response? “Hi Kirk, I’ve been doing acting workshops like yours for the past few years, and a lot of it has to do with gender switching! It releases so much energy. I’m all for it.”

Be who and what you need to be to become your chosen character. You are welcome to get makeup, props, wardrobe, a wig if you like and jump in all the way.

Your monologue may be lines pieced together from a scene or a full monologue already in the play.

Also, please prepare this dream assignment and bring it on the first day of class.Before you go to sleep, write out the following letter to yourself in a journal.(Women will request an Animus dream to approach a masculine energy while men will request an Anima dream to get better in touch with feminine energy.)

===============================

Dear Inner Self,                                    (Time and date)

If it is your will, please reveal to me in a dream what you would like me to know about my Animus/Anima so I may come closer to you.

With Care and Respect,

(Your name)

P.S. Please help me to remember and write down my dream when I wake up.

===========================

Leave a pen and notebook by your bed. First thing when you wake up, write down all aspects of your dream that you can remember. If you have no dream or just a single image, write it down or even just your first waking thoughts and feelings. Trust the process.Give your dreams permission to help you become aware of areas where you struggle for power in your life, and journal about feelings that arise as you read the play.

The more you let go and commit the more we will collectively rise to new heights. We will move into scene work but…

YOUR MONOLOGUE WILL BE SHOT IN A PLAYFUL SELF TAPE STYLE WITH CLASS ASSISTANCE ON YOUR OWN PHONE.

Our 4 days together will be rooted in building TRUST within ourselves and of those around us.

Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have…looking forward to working with you!
